Free Screening of DIRT - The Movie, March 17, 2012, Berlin Peck Public Library Sponsored by the UConn Home & Garden Education Center,, CT Community Gardening Assoc., CT NOFA, Hartford Food System, Soil Science Society of Southern New England, Bridgeport Community Land Trust and The New Haven Land Trust, Knox Park Foundation.

Free Soil pH Tests
Twice each year the Soil Nutrient Analysis Laboratory offers free soil pH testing along with limestone recommendations to the general public. Also, University of Connecticut Master Gardeners may host events in their counties where soil samples can be brought for testing. Bring ½ cup of soil for a free pH test to:

  • Cornucopia, University of Connecticut, Storrs September 25, 2011
  • Come On Compost! New London Cooperative Extension, Norwich, CT September 24, 2011 (350.org day)
  • CT Flower and Garden Show, Hartford, CT February 23 – 26, 2012

CT Envirothon Soils Training
Each year the Soil Nutrient Analysis Laboratory assists the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service with CT Envirothon training on soil properties and morphology. In 2008, the training was held at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. Soil testing lab personnel also assist in administration of the state competition held at different locations in Connecticut each year. www.ctenvirothon.org
